Mystikal, the New Orleans rapper known for hits like “Shake Ya Ass,” is once again at the center of a severe legal battle that could potentially end with a life sentence. Nearly three years after his arrest for rape, Mystikal’s day in court took an unexpected turn when his scheduled plea hearing on March 17 was abruptly postponed by the Ascension Parish court in Louisiana. The reason for this delay remains unclear.

Originally set to formally enter his plea, Mystikal’s new court date is now rescheduled to May 19. The rapper faces grave charges, including first-degree rape, domestic abuse battery by strangulation, and false imprisonment—stemming from a disturbing incident reported in July 2022 at his Prairieville residence. The alleged victim, who claimed to be in a long-term relationship with Mystikal, accused him of brutally assaulting her after a dispute over money.

Mystikal maintains his innocence and previously pleaded not guilty to all charges. However, this is not the rapper’s first encounter with serious legal accusations. In 2003, he served six years in prison for sexual battery and extortion charges and became a lifetime registered sex offender. He faced similar accusations in 2017 but was released after the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence.

If convicted in the current case, Mystikal faces a mandatory life sentence, leaving fans and the hip-hop community closely watching as this dramatic legal saga unfolds.
