Ghanaian musician King Paluta has officially petitioned the board of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) regarding the absence of his hit track Makoma from this year’s nominations.
In a statement issued by his management and dated March 18, 2025, the artist is seeking clarification as to why the song was not considered, despite its massive success. According to the statement, Makoma was duly submitted for nomination in the following categories:
- Most Popular Song of the Year
- Record of the Year
- Hiplife Song of the Year
- Songwriter of the Year (King Paluta)
However, when the nominee list was announced last weekend, the song was missing from all these categories. This has prompted his management to demand a reasonable and tangible explanation from the TGMA board, as they believe the song was among the biggest in Ghana under the year of review.
The statement emphasized that Makoma remains one of Ghana’s most popular songs, generating massive engagement and excitement among music lovers since its release in 2024. It further noted that the track does not breach any ethical or moral standards set by the award scheme. The management assured that they are open to further discussions and possible reconsideration of the nomination.

Released in August 2024, Makoma quickly became a street anthem and topped several music charts in Ghana. The song gained widespread recognition, with many industry players and fans describing it as one of the most impactful releases of the year. It enjoyed massive airplay, dominated streaming platforms, and became a fan-favorite at concerts across the country.
Despite Makoma’s snub, King Paluta still earned a nomination in the Most Popular Song of the Year category for his song Aseda as well as a high contender for the Artiste Of The Year. The 2025 TGMA nominee list was announced on Saturday, March 15, recognizing top Ghanaian artists for their contributions to the music industry. It remains to be seen how the TGMA board will respond to King Paluta’s petition, as fans eagerly await a possible explanation or reconsideration.
