Speaking from behind bars in a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, the former Death Row mogul did not hold back, claiming that Snoop’s leadership has been a disappointment and questioning whether he ever truly purchased the legendary label.
Suge Knight Calls Snoop’s Death Row Era a “Flop”
During the interview, Suge dismissed Snoop’s success, saying that his efforts with Death Row have been a failure compared to its original run:
“You trying to create something that Suge Knight created, but instead of making something big, you disappointed the world by making everything flop. When I put out Tha Dogg Pound, they sold records. You put out Tha Dogg Pound, they sold nothing — it flopped.”
“You’re Destroying Hip-Hop”
Suge doubled down, accusing Snoop of destroying hip-hop’s authenticity:
“One person or three or four people is not bigger than hip-hop. We should be trying to figure out how to make hip-hop better. Everybody’s destroying hip-hop—you guys are making it worse. If you have Death Row, you destroyed it. You messed up the name.”
Snoop acquired Death Row Records in 2022 from MNRK Music Group, calling it a “full-circle moment” for his career. However, Suge remains skeptical about the deal and challenged Snoop to provide proof:
“Snoop, you said I’m mad because you bought Death Row. What you buy? Shut me up. Show me where y’all paid the money to buy it. Show me the paperwork — show me what you own.”
Suge Knight Remains Behind Bars
Knight, 59, is currently serving a 28-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter, stemming from the 2015 hit-and-run death of Terry Carter. He remains eligible for parole in 2034.
As of now, Snoop Dogg has not responded to Suge’s comments.
