Marvel’s Spider-Man voice actor Yuri Lowenthal has confirmed a third game in the hit series is in the works, and will still feature a lot of Peter Parker.
Marvel’s Spider-Man was released in 2018 before a sequel followed in 2023 that ended with Peter Parker handing the mantle of Spider-Man to Miles Morales. A third entry in the series has yet to be confirmed by developers Insomniac but narrative director Ben Arfmann has spoken about the possibility of a Venom spin-off while senior creative director Bryan Intihar said a third game would be “pretty epic”.
Now Peter Parker’s voice actor Yuri Lowenthal has seemingly confirmed the third Marvel’s Spider-Man game is currently being developed. Speaking to The Direct, he said: “There are very few things that I can say about this game, but you have somehow landed on the one thing that I can answer, and that’s that, yes, Peter is not gone. He will be a part of the next game and he won’t be relegated to the couch, I promise.”
Earlier this year, a job listing at Insomniac Games suggested Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 had started pre-production but the studio is currently focusing most of its efforts on the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine, which is rumoured to be released next year.
Speaking about Miles Morales becoming the main Spider-Man at the end of the second game, writer Brittney Morris said (via Gizmodo): “It always felt very natural, and I think we all collectively thought it would happen. To me, it shows a great deal of evolution from Miles; at the beginning of the game, we see him struggling to figure out what he wants to do with his life. By the end, we had Miles carrying the burden of saving the city, and also carrying Pete when Pete wasn’t strong enough to carry himself at various points.
“That’s what’s been so cool about writing a story about two Spider-Men: they’re both strong, and one of them can be strong when the other is not. By the end, Miles is more confident and he’s like, ‘Yeah, I got this. How much worse can things get after what we just went through?’”
