Keanu Reeves has shared a seemingly positive update on a potential Constantine sequel – see what he had to say below.

The cult movie, directed by Francis Lawrence, was released in 2005 and follows John Constantine (Reeves) as he exorcises the possessed and travels between Earth and Hell seeking salvation from eternal damnation for a suicide attempt in his youth. The Constantine film is based on DC ComicsHellblazer franchise.

Now 20 years on from its release, Reeves has revealed that plans are in motion regarding a long-discussed follow-up film. Speaking to InVerse on Friday (February 21), Reeves shared that the film has officially been pitched to DC after first being confirmed by Warner Bros. in 2022.

At the time, it was reported that Reeves and director Francis Lawrence would be returning for a sequel with JJ Abrams producing. Since then, little to no updates have been shared.

Now, Reeves has said to InVerse: “We’ve been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay’. So, we’re going to try and write a script.”

Reeves did not share any other information about Constantine’s sequel abut teased that it’s set in “the same world” as the 2005 entry and joked that “John Constantine’s going to be tortured even more.”

Constantine television series developed by Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer aired on NBC from October 24, 2014 to February 13, 2015. It was followed by an animated series called Constantine: City Of Demons released as five separate episodes on The CW’s online streaming platform, CW Seed, in 2018.
