On Monday (January 27), Barnett was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact, attempted first-degree murder, and theft of property. His alleged connection? He is the cousin of Justin Johnson, who was convicted last year for Dolph’s murder and sentenced to life in prison.
What Went Wrong?
According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, Barnett’s arrest stemmed from his presence with Johnson at the time of his capture in Indiana. A U.S. Marshals task force officer determined there was probable cause to issue a warrant—a standard procedure in cases like this.
🚨 “During the investigation of Justin Johnson, Shundale Barnett was found with [Justin] Johnson at the time of his arrest in Indiana,” the DA’s office stated. “Based on this and other facts, a task force officer determined there was probable cause to charge Barnett, and an arrest warrant was issued.”
But just 24 hours later, authorities dismissed the case and let Barnett walk free.
