Undoubtedly, Good Morning Ghana, hosted by Dr. Randy Abbey, has been one of the most-watched shows in Ghana and beyond. Many made it a must every morning to watch the show before any other thing. But there had been equally other great shows.
Some often tuned in to other shows like Big Issues on TV3, which I believe was strategically timed in order not to counter Good Morning Ghana.
Kokrokoo on Peace FM was another show that was particularly for radio lovers and was more vibrant during the Dumsor period since it was the readily available option for morning shows. This is not to compare presenters but rather to interrogate the gap left after the exit of Dr. Randy Abbey on Good Morning Ghana. You will often find the same viewers of TV3’s New Day waiting to switch to GMG after the Big Issues had ended.
This was a clear indication of how interested the masses are in issues of governance and accountability. But the question remains: Will GMG still be able to hold the front in the absence of Dr. Abbey, and will other productions restructure to take advantage of Dr. Abbey’s absence?
Well, from a production viewpoint, this would be an ideal time for the other alternatives to reposition target key guests, adjust time, and review content that carries the viewer along.
This is a great opportunity for the wise.
