President John Dramani Mahama has pledged his administration’s commitment to resolving Ghana’s energy challenges and preventing a resurgence of “dumsor,” the term commonly used to describe frequent power outages.

Speaking at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana on Thursday, January 9, 2025, the first gentleman of the land acknowledged the critical energy issues facing the country and emphasized the government’s resolve to tackle them.

“We are assuming office at a critical time in our nation’s history. Ghana is faced with significant challenges. But that is exactly the reason why you elected us,” the President stated. “We will transparently let you understand what those challenges are and we will take responsibility for solving them.”

The President revealed that the energy sector is grappling with insufficient fuel supplies for power generation, posing a potential risk of power outages. However, he reassured Ghanaians of his administration’s ability to address the situation.

“There is a threat of power outages, but my brothers and sisters, don’t despair. You elected us to solve the problems, not to put the blame on anybody else,” he emphasized.

To avert the crisis, President Mahama disclosed that he had convened a stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday, January 8, to devise innovative strategies for stabilizing energy supply.

“I can assure you of some of the ideas they have come up with. We will make sure that your lights stay on and that we do not have dumsor,” he assured.

The issue of “dumsor” became a major challenge during President Mahama’s first administration, affecting businesses and households across the country. The power crisis not only drew public criticism but also highlighted the need for long-term energy solutions.

President Mahama stressed the urgency of addressing these challenges through collaborative efforts and assured Ghanaians of his government’s determination to lead the way in overcoming them.

“Challenges in the energy sector require urgent and collaborative efforts. We are fully prepared to ensure that this country moves forward, lights on and all,” he concluded.

The President’s renewed commitment aims to restore public confidence as the government takes critical steps to stabilize energy production and distribution.
