Keanu Reeves has spoken about whether the John Wick franchise will proceed with a fifth film – see what he had to say below.
Speaking to CBS News to promote his new film Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Reeves was asked about the potential for the John Wick franchise to move forward with a fifth film. Reeves said earlier this month: “You can never say never. My knees right now are saying ‘I can’t do another John Wick‘. So my heart does but I don’t know if my knees can do it.”
However, Reeves will return as John Wick in the upcoming Ana de Armas-led spin-off film Ballerina.
Ballerina is the first feature-length spin-off film set in the John Wick universe, following the spin-off series The Continental. The upcoming film stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a ballerina who is trained to be an assassin in hopes of avenging the death of her family.
The film is set after the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, with Macarro seeking revenge agains the people who killed her family. The will see Keanu Reeves‘ John Wick returning, as confirmed by its trailer, though the extent of his role in the film remains unknown.
Ballerina marks the fifth John Wick film, and the first since 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4. In a four-star review of John Wick: Chapter 4 for NME, Jesse Hassenger wrote: “Chapter 4 doesn’t exude the wheel-spinning cynicism of a forever franchise. Stahelski may traffic in excess, but at least he understands it: how choreography, performance and style can make over-the-top spectacle cohere into pleasurably overwhelming action fizz, rather than congealing into a sweaty special effects overload. He also gets that after 169 minutes, some degree of closure is appreciated. There may well be a Chapter 5 but Chapter 4 still feels like a movie giving its all.”
For now, Reeves is voicing the character of Shadow in Sonic The Hedgehog 3 alongside Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba and Jim Carrey. A fourth film in the franchise has recently been confirmed and will release sometime in Spring 2027.
