Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has hinted at a “new generation” show, as the Cillian Murphy-starring movie wraps up filming.

The sixth season of the show was released in 2022 but instead of a seventh, Knight wants to finish up the story of Murphy’s Tommy Shelby and the rest of his criminal mates with a feature film.

The film is written by Knight and directed by Tom Harper, who directed three episodes of the show. Murphy will reprise his role of Shelby, alongside a supporting cast made up of Stephen GrahamRebecca FergusonBarry Keoghan and Tim Roth. The film will be distributed by Netflix, but no release date has been confirmed.

In a new interview with Paris Match Knight spoke about the future of Peaky Blinders now that the movie has finished filming. He has also hinted at a potential follow-up with a new generation of characters.

“We are going to focus on the new generation in a series that will take place after the Second World War. And then, who knows? Why not a clothing line?” he said, as translated by ScreenRant.

As well as Knight’s comment in the interview, hair and makeup designer Nadia Stacey recently posted about the film wrapping up, starting out the caption with “THE IMMORTAL MAN – Peaky Blinders the movie” – hinting at a possible title for the upcoming project.

In other Peaky Blinders-related news, Vinnie Jones has said he wishes he had been in the cast of the BBC crime drama.

He appeared on Chris Moyles’ show on Radio X and opened up about his desire to have been cast in the hit Birmingham-set show.

…Fools and Horses, it’s one of them where you look at it, same as that Peaky Blinders,” he said. “I wish I’d have done that, because I thought I was made for that as well.”

“Some things you think you’re made for,” he added.

Last month the show’s costume designer Stephanie Collie died aged 60. Murphy led tributes to the designer and other actors who worked with her, including Ryan ReynoldsDaniel Craig and Samuel L. Jackson, also paid their respects.
