It’s the season of giving, and GloRilla is doing her part. Big Glo returned home to her alma mater Melrose High School in Memphis on Wednesday (Dec. 17), where she surprised students and faculty members with a $25,000 check.
The CMG rapper pulled up to her old stomping grounds to make the donation official, which will go toward educational resources such as upgrading the library center; it will be named The Gloria H. Woods Media Center in Glo’s honor.
“I always wished somebody could do that when I was younger,” GloRilla told FOX13. “So the fact that I have the ability to do it now, it warms my heart.”
Melrose High School Principal Kristopher Davis added: “We want to upgrade our system so students can be more interactive, so they can research and take their learning to the next level.”
Glo highlighted her achievements on Instagram later in the day, which included purchasing a piece of land in her hometown. “Bought my first piece of land in my city today along with giving back to my high school I graduated from & they named their media center after me God is good & life is great I’m so thankful,” she wrote.
GloRilla received plenty of love in her comments section, as DJ Paul, Ludacris, Kehlani, Busta Rhymes, Skilla Baby, Big Boogie and more saluted her for giving back to the community this holiday season.
Mark 2024 as a banner year for GloRilla, who topped the second iteration of Billboard‘s Hottest Female Rappers list. Her “TGIF” banger was also slotted at No. 16 on our Best 100 Songs of 2024 list.
