Tom Rasmussen and Self Esteem team up for poignant new single ‘Rescue Me’

Tom Rasmussen and Self Esteem have joined forces for the sentimental new single ‘Rescue Me’. Check it out below.

The track comes from Rasmussen’s new album ‘Live Wire’ (listen here) and sees the two artists explore the complexities of friendship in the modern world.

It comes alongside a Vic Lentaigne-directed video, where scenes from Rasmussen and Self Esteem’s relationship are played out from a bedroom. From there, they ruminate on their love lives, give each other brutally honest fashion opinions, and argue over Buffy the Vampire Slayer plot lines.

In a press release, Rasmussen shared that the track is about “friendships changing”. They explain: “About, perhaps, both of you judging the decisions the other has made in their life. In the end maybe we all need a little rescuing from the structures that seem to overtake our lives when we aren’t looking — capitalism, heteronormativity, spin class.

“Throwback to my indie days with the prod — big drums, big guitar, big feelings. With the best of them all Self Esteem, someone who feels these things like I do. Couldn’t be luckier that she agreed to join in. And that Vic and Milo wanted to come in and make our video: our strange relationship at the end of the world.”

Self Esteem added: “As a massive fan it was an honour to be asked to feature on this beautiful song. I feel very connected to Tom, their music and vision, and it was honestly competition winning to be involved. I hope you enjoy this CCTV footage of us spending time together for the video.”

Both Self Esteem and Rasmussen are set to perform at End Of The Road 2025. The festival is set to be held at Larmer Tree Gardens in Dorset next summer, and will run between August 28 and 31.

In other news, Self Esteem revealed in September that she is well underway with work on her “honest” third record.

“I think I’m 70 per cent through making the difficult third album,” she began, adding that she feels some pressure to keep up the momentum from her last studio release. “No one has ever been that interested in what I’m about to do. The last album had its little moment, so I’ve got a natural amount of stress from that.”

She continued: “I used to have a very clear idea about what I wanted… Now the idea isn’t that clear. I don’t know if it’s because I’m burnt out or because I’m 37… My mate the other day was like ‘Is there anyone who has done what you’ve done?’, and I was like ‘That’s the problem, in a way’. Everyone else did it in their 20s so there’s no blueprint. At 40 most women disappear, and I’m just getting started.”

Speaking to NME about her forthcoming third album in 2022, Taylor commented: “I’m still whinging about loads of other stuff. ‘Prioritise Pleasure’ was only the start of the penny dropping.

“I’m still this hyper-emotional person, I find it all a bit hard and that’s where I’ll always write from. You know how Ed Sheeran just sings about loving his girlfriend? One day I’ll just be able to do that. For now, I’ve just got to fight injustice at every corner. It’s difficult, but I’ll do it!”
