Dolly Parton has announced an open casting call for a new musical based on her life.

News that the country music icon would be helping to develop a new Broadway musical arrived earlier this summer, when she confirmed that she had teamed up with Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher.

Titled Dolly: An Original Musical, the show is set to follow the life and career of the singer, and will feature a combination of both her biggest hits and some new material written especially for the show.

Now, around six months after she first shared news of the project, Parton has confirmed that she is looking for actors who will help bring the production to life, and holding an open casting call for actors who may be interested – regardless of their experience or background.

“Whether you’re chasing your dreams from a small town or you’ve spent years performing on stages across the country, I want to give you the chance to help me bring my story to Broadway – and maybe even play me,” she said in a new video shared on Instagram yesterday (October 5).

“This show is a celebration of my music, my life and all the amazing people who’ve been with me along the way.”

She continued to emphasise that she and the team are open to embracing new, emerging talent for the production, and anyone can apply “whether you’re an experienced theatre professional or an undiscovered gem with that little special something”.

“We’re looking for talented performers who can capture the spirit of my journey. So, what are you waiting for? This might be your big moment to take centre stage and step into the spotlight,” she concluded, also sharing that finalists will be invited to audition in person with the casting director in New York City.

Applications must be submitted by January 12 2025, and submissions via social media have to include the hashtag #searchfordolly. Check out the full clip above, and visit here for more information.

At time of writing, few details are known about the upcoming Broadway musical, although it has been slated to open in 2026.

News that Parton will be holding an open casting call for the musical comes just weeks after she confirmed that she had written a new Christmas-themed children’s book titled Dolly Parton’s Billy The Kid Comes Home For Christmas.

It serves as a sequel to the singer-songwriter’s previous New York Times bestseller, Dolly Parton’s Billy the Kid Makes It Big, and came less than a month after Parton released a cookbook, Good Lookin’ Cookin’ with her sister Rachel Parton George.

Before then, Parton donated $1million of her own money to the relief effort for Hurricane Helene.

Earlier in the month, Hurricane Helene made landfall across the Southeastern states of the US, laying waste to cities such as Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and many more. At the time of writing, the hurricane has resulted in an estimate of more than 220 deaths, while hundreds of others remain missing. Hundreds of thousands of homes are without power and infrastructural damage is widespread.
