Billie Eilish is wrapping up 2024 with a major honor, as the nine-time Grammy winner was named Apple Music’s 2024 Artist of the Year on Thursday (Nov. 21).

“Since day one, Apple Music has supported my music and artistry, and I am both honored and humbled to receive this recognition as Artist of the Year this many years into my career,” Eilish said in a statement of the news.

Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s senior director of content and editorial, added, “From the moment we first heard ‘Ocean Eyes’ nearly a decade ago, we’ve been fans and champions of Billie’s work. It’s always special when a young artist can connect with so many people so quickly. But what’s been truly remarkable about watching her evolve over the course of this last year isn’t just that her voice and artistry have continued to resonate so widely. It’s that she’s blossomed as bravely and honestly as she has — on her own terms, in her own way.”

It’s been a groundbreaking year for Eilish, who kicked off 2024 with two Grammy wins for her Barbie track, “What Was I Made For?,” in the song of the year and best song written for visual media categories. She dropped her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, in May, and upon release, the album soared to No. 1 on Apple Music’s all-genre albums chart in 138 countries worldwide. The project also hit No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart, and featured hits like “Lunch” and “Birds of a Feather.”

Going into 2025, she’s nominated for seven Grammys. Hit Me Hard and Soft is up for album of the year and best pop vocal album, while “Birds of a Feather” snagged nominations for record of the year, song of the year and best pop solo performance. The “Over Now Extended Edit” of “L’Amour De Ma Vie” is nominated for best dance pop recording, while her Charli XCX “Guess” collaboration received a nod for best pop duo/group performance.
