The Ghana Police Service has officially refuted rumors circulating on social media that 16-year-old suspect driver Elrad Salifu Amoako is not being held at the Osu Correctional Centre.

In a recent statement, the police affirmed that following a court order issued on November 1, 2024, Amoako was indeed remanded at the Osu Correctional Centre, where he remains as of the latest checks this morning.

The police also highlighted that these unverified claims amount to the publication of false news under Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). Authorities are investigating two social media accounts linked to the false information—TikTok user “prisywanlov1” and Facebook user “EmpressPapa A-Amigos”—and are working to identify those responsible to ensure accountability.

Additionally, the police expressed concern over the exploitation of the tragic incident, which led to the loss of two lives, as individuals on social media seek attention at the expense of the grieving families. They urged the public to desist from spreading misinformation and allow the families to mourn in peace.
