A Channel 5 true crime docuseries has this week topped Netflix in the UK.

My Wife, My Abuser: Captured On Camera was first aired on Channel 5 earlier this year, and features video footage of the abuse suffered by Richard Spencer at the hands of his then wife, Sheree, alongside written testimonials, audio recordings and photographs.

It led to his wife, a former prison boss, pleading guilty to coercive and controlling behaviour and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, according to the Radio Times.

She was jailed for four years at Hull Crown Court in March 2023. The offences that she was found guilty of took place between 2016 and 2021.

Many fans took to X/Twitter to give their reaction to the docuseries after watching it on Netflix.

“That ‘My wife, My abuser’ on Netflix is genuinely one of the hardest watches ever. So heartbreaking,” wrote one.

“My Wife, My Abuser on Netflix is fucking awful,” another added. “Watching ‘my wife, my abuser’ on Netflix, that poor man,” a viewer also wrote.

The show beat the popular This Is Zodiac Speaking true-crime docuseries and the horror series The Burning Girls, starring Samantha Morton, to the summit of the Top Ten TV shows in the UK on the streaming service.

Elsewhere, earlier today (October 30) a video of Jenna Ortega reading a bedtime story as Wednesday Addams to celebrate “the night before Halloween” was also shared by Netlflix.

Ortega is currently in the middle of shooting the second season of the hit series, with production of the show having relocated from Romania, where the first season was shot. Season two has an expected release date of 2025.
