Modern Warfare 3’s season five went live last week, with the first-person shooter also being made available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers for the very first time.

However, players quickly saw a rise in apparent cheaters across the multiplayer game. Now Activision has called on players to help address the issue.

“RICOCHET Anti-Cheat resolved an issue with a detection system over the weekend, which resulted in a spike in cheater reports,” they posted on social media. “For clarity, Team RICHOCHET is able to detect the specific platform for all users, despite how they may appear in-game. If you suspect a player in your lobby is cheating, regardless of platform, we recommend you submit a report in-game for further investigation.”

“We remain committed to combating cheaters, shutting down cheat vendors, and providing our players a fair and fun experience,” with the Modern Warzone X account making light of the situation. “It’s been a warzone out there,” they posted.

However, many players have reportedly been wrongly shadowbanned as a result of the Anti-Cheat update. “We shouldn’t have to report in game, you should detect automatically like a good anti cheat and this would also stop the shadow ban loop, you devs say doesn’t happen,” wrote one Call Of Duty fan account, with another claiming cheats are simply signing up for a new Game Pass account after being banned. “Right now, it’s so easy to cheat,” they wrote.

“This has been an issue for at least seven days if not longer (at least at this severity) waiting this long to make this post on an updates account, with no real plan to permanently fix the issue seems short sighted,” added another fan.

It’s an issue Activision will be hoping to solve before the launch of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, which is due for release in October and will be available via Xbox Game Pass the same day.

In other news, Microsoft has revealed just how many people played Fallout following the success of the Prime Video adaptation.
