Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has announced that the government is intending to bring back road and bridge tolls in 2025.

This was made known during the 2024 mid-year fiscal policy review presentation in Parliament on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

According to the minister, reintroduction of tolls is a key component of a holistic approach to improve infrastructure funding and management.

He stated that the move aims at generating additional revenue to support the maintenance and development of the country’s road network.

“Mr. Speaker, Cabinet has approved the establishment of a framework for the reintroduction of road and bridge tolls in 2025,” he stated.

Dr. Amin Adam reiterated the government’s dedication to effectively managing and directing toll revenues towards essential infrastructure projects.

This move signifies a major advancement in the government’s initiatives to enhance Ghana’s transportation infrastructure, subsequent to the halt in toll collection in November 2021. He then stressed that the reinstatement of tolls will be pivotal in upholding fiscal responsibility and bolstering the country’s development objectives
