Speculation about The 1975 frontman and his model girlfriend came to a head last night when the latter posted an update on her Instagram Stories, while at a Charli XCX concert in New York City.

In the update, a photo of Butchel’s hand is seen wearing a large black ring on her ring finger, she shared it alongside the caption ‘MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT.’

She then doubled down on the rumours about an engagement, posting a mirror selfie as she held up the ring. Both updates seem to have come from the same night that she and Healy were spotted out together at the Charli XCX gig, and the “brat” comment in the caption seems to be a nod to Charli’s new album.

After sharing various memes online that same night, Healy also reshared the ring photo, adding fuel to the fire about rumours that they had gotten engaged.

According to People, the two have been dating since September 2023. While Healy is the frontman for the indie rock group, Bechtel has worked as a model for brands including Marc Jacobs, Dolce and Gabbana, Savage X Fenty and more.

She has also been friends with Charli XCX since 2016 and was chosen by the singer to front the punk rock band Nasty Cherry. Their rise to fame was featured in the reality series called I’m With The Band: Nasty Cherry, and they came to an end in 2021 amid the COVID Pandemic.

The news of a potential engagement also comes following Healy’s past relationship with Taylor Swift making headlines following the release of the latter’s latest album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ – which features multiple nods to their relationship.

While unconfirmed, it is strongly believed that Healy is the subject of several songs on ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, namely its title track and ‘The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived’. Swift also mentioned the cult Scottish indie band The Blue Nile on ‘Guilty As Sin?’, which appears to be another nod to Healy.

It is estimated Swift and Healy were involved with each other from April to June 2023, just after she split from long-term boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

Charli’s song ‘Sympathy is a Knife’ also contained lyrics which many speculated as being about Healy and Swift’s brief relationship, and some thought expressed Charli’s hopes that the two would split. Charli XCX is currently engaged to the 1975’s drummer George Daniel.

It isn’t yet clear whether the engagement news is real, or whether it is the two of them pranking fans. NME has reached out to Healy’s representative for comment.

In other Healy news, the singer recently opened up again about his thoughts on Swift’s new album, and said that he was left “blindsided” by how much of the project was supposedly inspired by their relationship, particularly because they were “never serious”.

Similarly, last month after being approached by paparazzi in Los Angeles, Healy was asked how he felt about his “Taylor diss track”. While it’s unclear which exact song the paparazzo was referring to, the ‘About You’ singer replied: “My diss track? Oh! I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good.”

Denise Welch, Healy’s mother also shared a response after being asked about the album. Welch –  who has previously said that she is seen as “the Virgin Mary” among The 1975‘s fanbase – has shared her thoughts after being asked about the album during an episode of Loose Women.

“I wasn’t aware she had an album out at all, I haven’t heard anything to do with it,” she joked.

The 1975 did benefit from the album in a way, however, as streams of The 1975’s music increased by 14 per cent following the release of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.
