Speaking about the new album, the South London singer-songwriter said: “Here is my first born child, a fuck you to all my exes, and basically me just trying to figure out some shit openly and honestly on record. First of many and if you don’t like it, then this wasn’t meant for you anyway.”
The new album is described in a statement as “a remarkable shift in Young’s sound as an artist.” Recorded in LA and produced by friend and collaborator Solomonophic (Remi Wolf, BROCKHAMPTON, Dominic Fike), ‘This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway’ is also described as a “ multi-faceted, fearless concept” and “crackling with kinetic energy and lyrically fuelled by rage, passion, narrative flair and comedy derision.”
The new album will arrive via Island Records on June 21 and you can pre-order it here.

NME described Young’s 2023 debut extended project, ‘My Mind Wanders And Sometimes Leaves Completely’, as “utterly compelling” in a four-star review.
It added: “On her debut project it’s gratifying to hear Young push her idea of pop beyond the spacey atmospherics of her earlier material – this is the overdue arrival of a completely credible new talent.”
In February of 2022, Young reflected on being nominated for the BRITS Rising Star Award alongside Bree Runway and Holly Humberstone.
“It says that women rule the world, and that young, uprising talent is still equally important,” she told NME on the red carpet. “It leaves room for so much. We’re still at the first steps. It’s massively part of the bigger picture.”
Young also completed a UK and European tour earlier this year.
