Joe Alwyn has revealed he would be very keen to take on the role of James Bond if it were offered.

The British actor has been making a name for himself in Hollywood ever since his 2016 feature film debut in Ang Lee’s drama Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. He has also worked with filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos on The Favourite and Kinds Of Kindness. In music, he is a Grammy winner for his work with former partner Taylor Swift.

Alwyn was at the Oscars in Los Angeles on Sunday (March 2) to support The Brutalist, where he plays Harry, the son of a wealthy industrialist who first hires architect László Tóth (Adrien Brody). The star is also one of the names mentioned in contention for the next James Bond.

“Oh, wow,” exclaimed the actor when asked by Variety whether he would be interested. “Who wouldn’t throw their hat in the ring? You know?” He later quipped he would take the role “if you’re offering!” And when asked if he likes martinis shaken or stirred, he replied: “I like both. I do, I do.”

The Oscars featured a medley of songs from the Bond franchise to celebrate the films, the last of which saw Daniel Craig bow out in 2021’s No Time To Die.

The sequence opened with The Substance star Margaret Qualley dancing a choreographed number, followed by Lisa covering ‘Live And Let Die’. Doja Cat then sang a version of ‘Diamonds Are Forever’, before RAYE closed the segment with a cover of ‘Skyfall’.

Doja Cat took to social media to talk about her involvement, saying: “The song is a classic and I put a lot of work into it but the nerves got to me and a bitch hit some flats.”

Recently, the Bond series entered a new era when Amazon MGM Studios reached an agreement that saw them assume creative control of the films, taking over from former producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
