Fyre Festival 2 announces dates, location and tickets for “real” return

Fyre Festival has announced the dates, location and tickets for its “real return” this year – find out more below.

In 2017, Fyre Festival took the world by storm – not for its line-up and success, but for the infamously botched planning and fan experiences that resulted in several lawsuits and documentaries.

After years of founder Billy McFarland teasing that the festival would return this year, its comeback has now been confirmed, with Fyre Festival and McFarland taking to social media to announce key details.

Built around the tagline “Fyre Festival 2 is real”, McFarland and Fyre Festival have confirmed that its second attempt will take place between May 30 and June 2 at Isla Mujeres in Mexico. Tickets are now on sale between US$1,400 and a whopping $1.1million for an eight-pax package.

The festival is described as a “three-day escape to the Mexican Caribbean where you’ll explore by day alongside your favourite talent and come together at night to celebrate with music”.

Fyre Festival 2 also claims that it will feature “adventures led by international and local talent, taking guests on boundary-pushing excursions by day and uniting for intimate beach-side performances at night”.

As for the musical acts set to play at Fyre Festival 2, no talent has been announced yet. The original Fyre Festival in 2017 was reportedly set to include performances from Blink-182, Major Lazer, Disclosure, Migos, Pusha T, Tyga and more.

In a statement shared alongside the Fyre Festival 2 announcement, disgraced founder Billy McFarland said: “I’m sure many people think I’m crazy for doing this again. But I feel I’d be crazy not to do it again. After years of reflection and now thoughtful planning, the new team and I have amazing plans for Fyre 2. The adventure seekers who trust the vision and take the leap will help make history. Thank you to my partners for the second chance.”

In August 2023, pre-sale tickets to Fyre Festival 2 sold out despite the fact that the festival has no line-up, venue, or dates fixed for the event.

First developed by McFarland eight years ago, the botched festival Fyre Fest was originally set to run over two weekends on a private beach in the Bahamas but was revealed to be fraudulent once punters arrived on the scene, with inadequate conditions and a lack of food and water. The debacle was then captured in the now-iconic Netflix documentary FYRE.

McFarland was released from prison in 2022 after he pleaded guilty to multiple counts of fraud.
