Sam Fender has continued to tease another new album, saying that he is “desperate” to lean into more of a punk-inspired sound going forward.

The comments from the Geordie singer-songwriter come as he shared his highly-anticipated third album, ‘People Watching’ last Friday (February 21) – which contained four of his previously released singles: ‘Remember My Name‘, ‘Arm’s Length’, ‘Wild Long Lie’ and the album’s title track.

While in a new interview with The Sunday Times, Fender opened up about the inspirations that came into the songwriting process, and how his upbringing has shaped his view of the world around him.

One of the most intriguing parts of the discussion, however, came when he revealed that he has already got much more unreleased material, and is already setting his sights on a new release.

According to the article, Fender showed the interviewer that he had “dozens” of currently unheard demos on his phone and was eager to show them. “Do you want to hear some? It’s what gives me life,” he said.

The piece goes on to state that one of the tracks that he played and sang along to during the interview was titled ‘Drugs’, while another was called ‘Hornsby’ because it was inspired by American singer-songwriter Bruce Hornsby.

“I’m buzzing! I’m just singing at you!” he added, also going on to say that he was “desperate” to make a full-blown punk record soon. As per The Times, Fender also showed a snippet of a song that had a Tom Petty feel to it, and had the lyrics: “People are going to hate you, whether you’re a saint, sinner, giver or a taker/ But a big old heart is all that it’s worth/ And he said, ‘You’ve got a big old heart, kid! Don’t let them own it.’”

At time of writing, few details are known about more new material from Sam Fender, although this isn’t the first time that he has alluded to more music in recent days.

During a recent interview on Apple Music 1‘s The Zane Lowe Show, the Geordie songwriter opened up about working with The War On Drugs‘ Adam Granduciel, and reiterated that he is already working on its follow-up.

“It all happened really quickly [working with Granduciel for ‘People Watching’] and that’s always a great sign for me,” he said. “I feel like if things are moving fast, then you know it’s happening. As soon as it’s done, it’s like wiping the hard drive in your head.”

“And now I’m ready to do another one,” he added. “I just want to get back in the studio, if I’m honest. I’ve got a load of new songs already.”

As for what fans can expect from the upcoming material, he told Lowe: “There’s two avenues I’ve got right now on the go. I’ve got a real stripped-back bunch of tunes, which really I couldn’t build on. They need to just be on their own. And then the other side’s a bit more thrashy. So I’m thinking about two records at once at the moment.

“We’ll see. But I would love to do a real stripped-back [LP] because I mean, that’s how I started. The band kind of only came together once I’ve actually recorded my first sort of single. …Before then, I toured for a while. When I was 18, 19, 20, those sort of three years, I was just on my own with an acoustic. That’s how I started everything. So yeah, I would love to go back to that.”

“There’s a part of us that really yearns for, maybe it’s a little solo tour just on my own with an acoustic maybe to see what that’s like,” he added.

‘People Watching’ was given a glowing four-star review from NME, which described it as a “reflective and perceptive indie rock from North Shields’ shining star”.

“Feeling existential, uprooted and disconnected from his old working-class life thanks to his rapid rise to fame, the British guitar hero channels it all into his gorgeous third album,” it read.

Fender has added further dates to his forthcoming UK stadium tour in the summer – including Wythenshawe Park in Manchester, Edinburgh Summer Sessions, and Boucher Road Playing Fields in Belfast. Visit here to buy tickets and find a list of UK tour dates here.

He is also nominated for two BRIT Awards at next month’s ceremony: Artist Of The Year and Alt/Rock Act, and has been announced as the official ambassador of Record Store Day UK 2025. The event will be held on April 12 and Fender will release two new songs as part of a special EP to celebrate.

On top of that, it was recently announced that Fender will be one of the headlining acts at this year’s Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
