Veteran Ghanaian broadcaster Fiifi Banson, has made a highly anticipated return to radio with the launch of Sporty Drive, Ghana’s first-ever sports-themed drivetime show on the newly established SportyFM.
Fiifi Banson, known for his charismatic and energetic presence, last graced the airwaves nearly a decade ago. However, his comeback on Monday, February 3, felt seamless as he hosted football administrator Kudjoe Fianoo and former Black Stars player Augustine Ahinful as guests on the premiere episode.
Originally planned as a lively and upbeat show, Sporty Drive had to adapt due to the tragic news of a Kotoko supporter’s passing during a league match on Sunday.
“The plan was for a happier show, but we had to change it because of the trending news involving the Kotoko supporter who died at a league match on Sunday,” he explained.

Despite the shift in tone, he expressed enthusiasm about his return, stating, “However, I am thrilled that the same desire I have always had to inform and entertain my audience still burns brightly. I’m looking forward to a great time!”
Gary Al-Smith, Regional Content Lead at the Sporty Group, highlighted the overwhelming response to Banson’s return. “When someone is away for as long as The Dynamite has, there is the temptation to think he will be forgotten, which is why we are ecstatic at the show of happiness across town and on digital media. We are glad Mr. Banson is back.”
Banson’s return marks a significant moment for radio audiences in Ghana, bringing nostalgia while embracing a fresh, youthful approach to sports broadcasting.
