With this policy, Ghana joins a select group of African nations—Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin—that currently offer visa-free access to all African passport holders. This initiative is a significant step in fulfilling President Akufo-Addo’s promise made during the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD 2024) in January, where he pledged to introduce visa-free travel for Africans.
A win for #BorderlessAfrica. After practising Visa on Arrival for all Africans for many years, Ghana has now adopted a policy to allow visa free entry for all African nationals. It becomes the 5th country to do this, following Benin, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Rwanda.

The policy is designed to enhance the free movement of people, goods, and services across the continent, aligning with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). By breaking down travel barriers, it aims to stimulate economic integration and drive prosperity across Africa.
Visa free Africa for all Africans is wealth transfer to all Africans. I don’t need a visa to visit Ghana before now. But it’s beautiful to see that others can now visit without getting a visa.

Set to take effect before the end of President Akufo-Addo’s term on January 6, 2025, the initiative reflects Ghana’s leadership in promoting African unity. In his APD 2024 keynote address, delivered under the theme “Developing Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value, and Trade,” the President reiterated Ghana’s commitment to the visa-free agenda.
Great news! I stopped visiting Kenya when they introduced that ETA on African passports & then claiming kenya is now visa free. ETA is not visa free, visa free means i should just pack my bag and fly, no paperwork needed! Kudos to Ghana, I will definitely be visiting 🇬🇭 in 2025

“Many of you had to acquire a visa to attend this event,” he noted. “The government of Ghana is committed to ensuring visa-free travel for all Africans, and the process has begun to implement the policy this year.”
This transformative policy not only reinforces Ghana’s position as a leader in Pan-African initiatives but also serves as a beacon for deepening collaboration and connectivity across the continent.
