Hudson Meek, the child actor who appeared in Baby Driver has died, aged 16.

Meek fell from a moving vehicle in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, on December 19, per CNN. He was then admitted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, where he died from his injuries on December 21.

His death was confirmed in an Instagram post from his family. “Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” they wrote. “His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met.”

They added that a celebration of Meek’s life will be held on December 28, and further details on how to contribute to a scholarship at Vestavia Hills High School in his memory will follow.

Meek had multiple voice-over and acting credits, with his most notable appearance being his role as a younger version of Ansel Elgort’s Baby in the 2017 Edgar Wright-directed Baby Driver.

Elsewhere, he voiced the lead in the children’s show Badanamu Stories, and appeared in the NBC series Found as well as The CW’s Legacies.

This year, he appeared in the thrillers The School Duel and A Different Man.

Meek’s obituary describes him as “reflective and thoughtful” and an avid traveller. “He loved snow-skiing and could easily navigate the hardest trails that no one else in the family would dare attempt,” the obituary reads. “One of his favorite places to be was at the lake, tubing and wakeboarding.”

His death is being investigated by The Vestavia Hills Police Department.
