The actor, who played the villain Frank Harkness in season four earlier this year, said he will be returning to London in January 2025 for a two-and-a-half month shoot, at the International Film Festival of India in Goa (via Variety).

He added: “Each season generally is a book, but also each season departs a little bit from those books. We’re getting to the point with ‘Slow Horses’ where the seasons are catching up to the amount of books that [Mick] Herron has written.”

It comes after the Apple TV+ series was recently renewed for a sixth season, even before the fifth has aired.

The fourth season concluded in September, ending a run of episodes which was roundly praised as the “best season yet”, sitting on an imperious 100% score on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

The show is based on the Slough House series of novels by Herron and revolves around a group of British intelligence officers who have been demoted after having made significant mistakes. Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the head of Slough House, alongside Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden and Jonathan Pryce.

The next run will be based on Herron’s fifth book in the series, London Rules. “In season 5 of Slow Horses, everyone is suspicious when resident tech nerd Roddy Ho has a glamorous new girlfriend, but when a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected,” a synopsis reads.

“After all, Jackson Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, ‘London Rules’ should always apply.”

Elsewhere, Weaving also recently ruled out a return to The Lord Of The Rings franchise as Elrond.
