Well-known Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari, has made a passionate call to action, urging citizens to stand up against illegal mining, also known as “galamsey,” which she describes as a grave threat to the future of the country.

In a post on X (formally Twitter), Nadia expressed her concerns over the devastating impact of galamsey on Ghana’s lands, rivers, and natural resources, and how greed, ignorance, poverty, and the desperate desire to get rich quickly are driving the destruction.

“It’s really sad that today’s hunger for wealth is making us forget about tomorrow,” she said, pointing out that this destructive pursuit is leaving a lasting negative effect on the environment, which could be disastrous for future generations.

The renowned thespian also reflected on the troubling role of some politicians, stating that they not only take from their nations but also flaunt their ill-gotten wealth, creating a damaging example for the public. She noted that this has sparked a harmful mindset, leading many citizens to take matters into their own hands, even at the expense of the country’s future.

”All over the continent, politicians no longer just rob their nations, but also now rob off their ill acquired wealth on the faces of the same masses that put them in power through flaunting this wealth in open acquisition of public properties, and on other matters that really do not matter to the people. This I believe over time has created the wrong hunger in the citizenry to take their own destinies into their own hands, to undertake activities detrimental to lands, farms, rivers and other important areas of our various countries, reserved for research,” she wrote.

“Our fathers, our mothers, our religious leaders, and all reasonable people who care about this nation must rise up to stop this menace of greed before it destroys our future,” she urged.

Nadia further emphasized that public education is key to addressing the issue. She called for increased awareness about the dangers of galamsey and the need to teach children not only about Ghana’s gold production but also about the risks of abusing the country’s land for such gains.

Finally, she made known her support for lawful protests and demonstrations aimed at stopping galamsey, stressing that no one should be arrested for standing up for what is right.

“# I STAND WITH ALL WHO FIGHT FOR THIS GOOD CAUSE,” she concluded.

LET’S STAND UP AGAINST THIS MENACE THAT IS DESTROYING THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY!

Ignorance, poverty, greed
and the desperation to be rich at once and at all cost, seem to be the driving forces behind the pungent act of illegal mining otherwise GALAMSAY, destroying our dear…
