Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema has  revealed that witnessing his mother’s struggles with poverty inspired him to pursue a career in music.

During an interview with Capital Xtral London, Rema shared how his mother couldn’t even afford transportation costs for her daily activities, which fueled his determination to make it in the music industry.

The ‘Calm Down’ singer emphasized that his priority was to alleviate his mother’s burden, which led him to buy her a car as soon as he started earning money.  He further expressed deep gratitude towards his mother for her unwavering support and credited her prayers as a key factor in his success.

“I was tired of my mum trekking every day; she didn’t even have money for transport to use a bus or bike. So I had to take it to the next level ASAP,” he said.

“The moment I made money, I got her a car ASAP. We went for dinner, then I gave her that car. A lot of boys would go for their own cars first but I was stilltrekking, but I had to get a car for my mum first.

“She’s a great mum. She’s the reason I’m successful. Her prayers. She’s really proud of me.”
