The former Fifth Harmony member was due to perform at the BET Awards on Sunday night (June 30) in the United States. However, less than an hour before the show went live, the singer took to social media to share that she wouldn’t be able to perform “on doctor’s orders”.

In the first of two posts on her Instagram Stories, Normani wrote: “I am more frustrated and disappointed than anyone, believe me. I wanted to get on here and give you guys and update letting you know that while in rehearsals for BET I had a really bad accident and injured myself. I am normally good for powering through under any circumstance but unfortunate due to my doctor’s orders, I am just not able to make this performance happen.”

She added that performing through the injure would “delay” her healing. In a follow-up post, she shared a photo of herself walking on crutches with her foot in a walking boot and her knee bandaged. The current severity of the injury or how it was sustained is unknown.

Last month, Normani released her long-awaited debut album, ‘Dopamine’. She had teased the record in January, calling it “literally the best music she’s ever made” and later describing it as “a representation of [her] evolution.”

Nick Levine wrote of ‘Dopamine’ in a four-star review for NME: “It may have taken six years, but ‘Dopamine’ sounds like the (damn) album Normani was meant to make all long.”
