Kings Of Leon‘s bassist, Jared Followill, seems to have dispelled rumours that the band will be making a surprise appearance at Glastonbury this year.

Following a cryptic post on the band’s Instagram yesterday, Followill took to Twitter earlier today to share another update, writing: “Everybody keeps telling me we’re playing a secret gig at Glastonbury today. Somebody has to tell our manager, booking agent, singer, etc.. ASAP.”

Yesterday, the band shared a video of their performance at Worthy Farm in 2008. In the accompanying caption, they teased that they aren’t currently too far away from the festival grounds: “Had a great time at Glastonbury in 2008. It’s only a short trip away from our little gig at Hyde Park…”

Yet Followill appeared to put the rumours to rest today, responding to a fan who teased that he might not be involved with proceedings, saying: “I guess there is a small chance they’re actually playing without me. I still would have at least liked to watch the show.”

Kings Of Leon will be in London tomorrow (June 30) to perform at BST Hyde Park and, by the looks of Followill’s Twitter, he’s in the city right now, tweeting: “Ok. London weather feels like Los Angeles right now. Playing @BSTHydePark tomorrow. Vibes this high might technically be illegal,” a few hours ago.

With dwindling TBA slots left, it seems unlikely the band will be returning to Glastonbury this year. Earlier today, Kasabian confirmed they would be filling the one major TBA slot remaining, following much fan speculation. They’ll take to the Woodsies stage at 6pm tonight (June 29).

The band announced they would be performing at Worthy Farm this year via an Instagram post earlier today. They shared a picture of the onsite notice, along with a timelapse clip of the band on the way to the festival in a private car.

So far, Glastonbury 2024 has been full of surprises. Artist Marina Abramović opened PJ Harvey’s Pyramid Stage set yesterday with a seven-minute silence as part of a performance piece. Elsewhere, Damon Albarn joined Bombay Bicycle Club to address Palestine and the “importance of voting” in the UK general election, and headliner Dua Lipa brought out Kevin Parker to perform Tame Impala’s ‘The Less I Know The Better’. Fred Again.. also played an intimate secret set at Strummerville.

Last year’s edition of Glastonbury had a particularly notable secret set in the form of Foo Fighters playing the Pyramid Stage under the moniker of The Churnups.
