Continuing the snake theme of the Houston rapper’s current era, the song follows on from her recent tracks ‘Cobra’ and ‘Hiss’.
It is built around a sample of Gwen Stefani‘s 2004 solo song ‘What You Waiting For?’, and was produced by Megan’s frequent collaborator Lil Ju (aka LilJuMadeDaBeat).
“I be showing my ass, they mad huh?/ Bitches is bitter, they thought it was sweet,” she spits in the first verse. “All of sudden they vegan, they don’t want beef/ Talking outta veneers, I’m knocking out teeth.”
Later, Megan raps over Stefani’s infectious “Tick-tock” refrain: “Bitch yo time up, why is you not clockin’ out? Doin’ shit for TikTok/ Bitch, I’m really hip-hop.”
‘BOA’ arrives with some video game-inspired official visuals, which see a male character go head-to-head with Megan in a Street Fighter-style battle. The game is titled Curse of the Serpent Woman, and ends up crossing over into the real world. Tune in above.
Earlier this year, Megan confirmed that she had signed a new record deal with Warner Music. “This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter of my life and career,” she explained in a statement.
“I’m really focused on building an empire and growing as an entrepreneur, so I’m proud to take this next step in my journey and work with Max Lousada and the entire Warner Music Group team in this new capacity. I know we’re going to create history together.”
Under the agreement, the artist’s independent entertainment and music entity, Hot Girl Productions, will release her music projects, while Warner Music Group and its international affiliates will assist with services including radio promotion and global marketing.
‘BOA’, ‘Cobra’ and ‘Hiss’ have all arrived via Hot Girl Productions. Megan formally severed ties with her past label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, following a legal dispute.
Megan is due to embark on a run of UK, Ireland, European and North American tour dates this spring and summer. You can find any remaining tickets here (UK and Ireland) and here (North America).
In January, the star promised that she would “drop an album on time for the summer”. She added: “I do want to give the Hotties the Megan Thee Stallion experience.” Her second and latest studio record, ‘Traumazine’, arrived in 2022.
